The blood bank, which collects cord blood from 35 maternity clinics across the Czech Republic, already has provided 38 grafts for transplants in several countries, including the U.S., the U.K. and France.

The Czech BPK, founded by Petr Kobylka. is part of the Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion in Prague.

“Four thousand grafts make the BPK one of the world-significant banks. In view of its population, the Czech Republic is among the first ten countries to contribute in this way to fighting haematopoiesis and other diseases, which are treated by transplants of haematinic tissues,” Kobylka said.
