A brand new facility, the $62 million UC Davis Institute for Regenerative Cures, which is supported by the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, officially opened on March 10, at the Sacramento campus.

The new building is the first of many major, CIRM-supported laboratories to open. California’s stem cell agency provided most of the funding for the first phase of the project, which is going to be a hot spot for regenerative medicine research that will eventually be home to more than 200 UC Davis scientists and laboratory staff.

“Within this new stem cell institute, our scientists and physicians, from a wide range of disciplines, are working together to innovate and discover answers for people with serious injury and illness from across the state and around the world,” said Pomeroy. “This facility gives the best minds in medicine the tools they need to turn stem cells into cures.”

Over the past year and a half, work crews renovated 54,000 square feet of space, creating new research facilities that include Northern California’s largest academic Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) laboratory, a state-of-the-art suite of rooms that will allow scientists to prepare and manufacture cellular therapies for clinical trials.

Please, I beg of you, can you direct me to A Stem Cell Trial for treatment of Spinal Cord Injury or can you direct me to a doctor who can treat my condition, “Spinal Cord Syndrome”. I am in extreme pain (8 out of 10), even though I am on very high levels of Morphine and numerous neurotransmiters, ie. Gabapentine/Neurontin, Topamax, Nortripyline. I am a 45 female who graduated from UC Davis with a B.S. and continued on to Graduate school in Reprod. Phys. and Pharma. at Texas A&M, where I irronically conducted research with stem cells/nuclear transfer. After finishing my education, I worked for BIoMed. companies, ie. pharmaceutical and ViaCell. ViaCell was an Umbilical Cord Cell Storage (cryopreservation) and processing company. I broke (fractured) my back due to an accident which entailed me falling 15 ft. from my balcony and landing on concrete. I have “Spinal Cord Syndrome”, extensive nerve damage and arthritis which has set in around injuer site. My body feels like it is in a constant fire. Before my accident, I was very athletic and in great shape. Now, even though I can walk without any assistance, I suffer from burning pain and I am always sleeping becausae of the pain meds. make me drowsy, as well as many other side effects, like dry mouth causing tooth loss and dental decay, and overallnerve damage causing burning and numbness. I have current MRI’s with a detailed description of my condition: Cervical- herniated disc; Thoracic- fractures, loss of spinal cord fluid, narrowing of foraminae; Lumbar- fractures. My doctors say I agreat candidate for Stem Cell Therapy (1st choice). If stem cell unsuccessful then Morphine Pump and Spinal Cord Stimulator would be tried as last result.
